Object descriptions in Photos App: Has the feature been removed?

Hello,
A few IOS versions back - especially during the IOS 10 period - there used to be that feature where VoiceOver, whilst one would browse the Photos in the Photos app, would attempt to describe some of the picture content. The descriptions were never very detailed, and sometimes they were completely wrong (calling my cat a puppy and what not). But they still were a nice feature to keep track of what might be on the pictures.
Well, I upgraded to IOS 11.3, and none such descriptions are read anymore. And I can‘t find any way of getting them back.
So I was wondering if that „feature“ was just an experiment which Apple decided to remove again?
Or are the photos still being described on someone else‘s iPhone?
