problems with voiceover voice

Hello.
I am using Fred for the english us voice. I have it set to that. My iPad is in swedish. The problem I am having is that if I use an app in US english I can do that, but if I tap things like the status bar or go out of the app the voice goes back to another one.
Is there a way to fix this?
I love this voice. It works just fine in Safari seing that it reads everything and I can use the status bar. It is just inside US english apps I cannot do it. If I take my personal diary app. I change voice to Fred and then I start typing. Once again, if I move focus out of the app, the voice goes back.
Please help.
